The Samuel Johnson Project is a unique program of artistic initiatives designed to coincide with the Tercentenary of Dr Samuel Johnson’s birth in 2009. The central aim of the project is the creation of three monumental sculptural artworks to be located in Lichfield, which will highlight Johnson’s life, his relationship to the city and language in the twentieth century. Alongside this the project incorporates community workshops alongside the production of artwork, which uses Johnson as the catalyst for its creation. Artwork produced includes work in the fields of contemporary installation, sonic art, film, composition, sculpture and the fine arts. The project also incorporates exhibitions and open public events that will help bring attention and help focus attention upon Lichfield in 2009.
